Young Lovers

Young love’s all butterflies, and tender eyes, and whispers in her ear.
There are longing stares, and almost there’s, and slaps across her rear.
Some things are done in bed, others are left unsaid, they are restless and in fear.
Soon he will get his way, and she will want to stay, but he has no revere.
He starts to turn away, she knows not what to say, her menses disappear.
Forced to hide her shame, he walks without all blame, she’s nothing left but tears.
He courts another lass, she pines for days gone past, her due date’s nearly here.
She gives the babe his name, he contradicts her claim, he knew for most the year.
She proves it in the courts, he’s forced to give support, this hits him like a spear.
He goes away to school, she’s forced to play it cool, and their child is still unclear.
She keeps him safe and sound, his father’s never around, the boy tries to be sincere.
As many years go by, she takes another guy, the family unit’s formed from here.
The boy begins to change, the girls are called by name, young love is in the air.
As she looks in his eyes, there’s a familiar guise, are all boys this severe?
He knows just how she feels, his honor is for real, their love’s not that unclear.
His father he is not, he’s seen his mother’s heart, and knows he’ll do better here.

  1. oh Cyn! you wrote this with such the realism of what happens to so many. I have known of this when working in Community Services as an outreach supporter volunteer. Well done!

  2. Thank you Ludz! I feel compelled at times to write about things like this, the things that just break my heart in knowing that they continue to happen to this day, even with all the programs we have out there to educate our youth. We can only hope and pray that our own children do not get caught up in these situations. It can happen to Anyone!
